Mill Creek Restoration Project

Project Description

Description

The last remnant of a tidally influenced creek, this area has been significantly impacted by former rail and industrial activities.  Additionally, the creek is the receiving body for a combined sewage outfall (CSO) which drains over 700 acres of the City.  The goals of the project are to remediate contaminated sediments, reduce harmful bacteria levels, and improve the tidal flushing of the waterbody and reduce the discharge of sewage to the Tidewater Basin.

Status

URS Corporation has been hired to study and evaluate alternative remedies for the CSO and creek contaminants.  Once a preferred remedy is selected, URS will prepare a preliminary design for the project and obtain the necessary permits from NJDEP and U.S.Army Corps of Engineers.
