Description The Jersey City Redevelopment Agency owns and operates the Community Education & Recreation Center on Ninth Street. The Agency demolished the former Betz Brewery Eagle Distribution Building and oversaw the construction of the 3-story Education and Recreation Center, which now houses the Golden Door Charter School as its major tenant. During the evenings and weekends, the building serves as a community center for the residents of Jersey City. The gymnasium and basketball facilities are home to Coach Bob Hurley's nationally ranked high-school basketball powerhouse, the St. Anthony’s Friars.
Status Completed and occupied. The Redevelopment Agency serves as the building manager and as the facilitator for the community's ability to rent the center.

In Wednesday, June 11, 2007, the first group of Kindergarten students who began their education at the Golden Door Charter School graduated rom 8th grade and are moving forward with their high school education. Many of the students graduated with honors. The school continues to serve the residents of Jersey City. |
