Project Description

Description
The Jersey City Redevelopment Agency owns and operates the Community Education & Recreation Center  on Ninth Street.  The Agency  demolished the former Betz Brewery Eagle Distribution Building and oversaw the construction of the 3-story Education and Recreation Center, which now houses the Golden Door Charter School as its major tenant. During the evenings and weekends, the building serves as a community center for the residents of Jersey City. The gymnasium and basketball facilities are home to Coach Bob Hurley's nationally ranked high-school basketball powerhouse, the St. Anthony’s Friars.

Status
Completed and occupied. The Redevelopment Agency serves as the building manager and as the facilitator for the community's ability to rent the center.
