The traditional Central Business District (CBD) of Jersey City, Journal Square actually became Jersey City’s central business district in the 1920's. Know by many old timers as the Silk Stocking district of the city, It has a number of neighborhoods surrounding it: Hilltop, the Island, St. Johns and Five Corners to name just a few. Journal Square is home to the PATH Transportation Center which has service to lower Manhattan, Midtown and Newark as well as 36 bus lines that terminate at the center. Journal Square is now undergoing a dramatic renewal with the State of New Jersey's designation of it as a Transit Village and the start of City Center Towers, a 1200 unit project that will sit on the site of the Old Holland Hotel. |
