Neighborhood Information

Downtown is the second oldest neighborhood in Jersey City. It is where the original City of Jersey City emanated from including the four historic districts: Van Vorst, Hamilton Park, Harsimus and Paulus Hook. Downtown is the site of the largest redevelopment activity over the last 25 years and home to two of the largest redevelopment projects in Jersey City, Newport and Liberty Harbor North. Downtown is also the site of the tallest structure in the State of New Jersey. It is home to the top three tallest structures including 101 Hudson Street and Newport Office Tower.  In addition, Downtown is home to the City's Powerhouse Retail, Entertainment, Arts District, which is anchored by the historic Powerhouse building on Washington Street, which is a Redevelopment Agency project.
