
Workforce housing is housing for essential jobs including teachers, nurses, police officers, fire fighters and municipal workers. Many of these people, however, often cannot afford to live in their own community because the gap between their incomes and the housing costs is two broad. Higher housing costs force families to move further from their jobs increasing traffic congestion, noise and air pollution, parking requirements, road maintenance costs and negatively impacting the quality of life for all residents.
